Polishing up your interview skills This session aims to help you understand what interview panels are looking for and how best to present yourself as the person for the job. It stresses the importance of preparation, body language and a positive attitude.
CVs and application forms Your CV should be long enough to explain your achievements and short enough to ensure it is read properly. This session offers plenty of tips and sound advice on how to improve your CV and to complete application forms so that they work for you and capture every aspect of you experience and achievements in your career to date.
Preparing for a Consultant post This session sets out to explain what particular skills are needed to move successfully into a consultant post; and how you should set about achieving this career goal.
What if it's not for me? Ten principles of career change You may have come to the conclusion that you wish to pursue a career outside of medicine, but just don't know where to start. Maintaining a portfolio This seminar will examine the benefits and pitfalls of portfolio use in supporting medical careers.

A career in General Practice This workshop is aimed at those who are interested in developing a career in general practice. It will explore the following areas: what a career in general practice entails - the advantages and drawbacks, the training pathway and how to maximise your chances of succeeding in your application for a general practice specialty training programme.
Developing a portfolio career in general practice This workshop is aimed at those wanting to combine a career in general practice with other working roles. You will be involved in a discussion that will highlight the unique opportunities that they can gain, or have gained, from portfolio working, identify common professional challenges and tensions that are typical of this role and share strategies that result in developing successful portfolio careers.

Factual information will be interspersed with discussion and a group task.
Career planning in a changing world In recent years there have been extensive changes in specialty training - not only in terms of how you apply for post-foundation jobs (eg the introduction of assessment centres and examinations in some specialties), but also year on year shifts in which specialties, and which regions are the most competitive.
